The first step towards writing begins with their own name. Full of pride, children write it with pencils, draw it in the sand or form it out of colourful letters. The names of their friends gradually follow - this is a playful way to discover writing. The first letters are created with modelling clay, finger paints or writing tablets. By doing puzzles with letter cards and matching pictures to words, they develop a feel for language. Through playful writing exercises and swinging exercises in which they trace lines, circles and loops, they improve their pencil grip and motor skills. With each exercise, their movements become more confident and they will soon be able to write a few words. They realise: Letters are more than signs - they are the key to their own little world
