Following primary school, SIS Rotkreuz-Zug offers a bilingual secondary school programme, enabling students to complete their obligatory education. In a small and intimate setting at our secondary school, students are nurtured through their teenage years, developing a strong academic grounding, which prepares them for continuing their education at the SIS bilingual college or for a demanding apprenticeship.
Bilingual Secondary School
At SIS secondary level, English and German are equally important, both as languages of instruction and in other parts of day-to-day school life. However, unlike in primary school, each subject is taught exclusively in one language. Great care is taken that students use both languages in as equal proportion as possible. Students new to one or the other language receive differentiated support to ensure that their language skills develop alongside their understanding of the subject matter.
Personal Learning Environment and Strong School Community
A small, intimate setting allows our secondary students to flourish. They are extremely well supported by staff who know them well and nurture their development. Each student is guided carefully towards their chosen path. Within the school community, they enjoy additional levels of independence and at the same time act as role models to the younger children. In this way they develop their social, emotional and organisational skills from the many opportunities they have to take responsibility in everyday school life and special events.
FAQ
Do SIS Swiss International School students have homework and when is it done?
At the lower year levels at SIS (kindergarten and primary school), homework is generally integrated into the school day. This takes place in designated time slots at the end of lessons as well as in the form of independent learning units during…
More questions?Solid and Hands-On Digital Skills
In addition to gaining the ability to participate in bilingual classes in a natural way, our students acquire solid and hands-on digital skills as well. They enjoy a general education that is both broad and deep with technology seen as both a discrete and integrated educational requirement and with specific digital skills being taught and implemented in all areas of the curriculum. The use of an online platform allows students to seamlessly transition from school learning to homework and vice versa.
Benchmarking Tests
At our secondary school, our students sit national and international benchmarking tests in mathematics, German and English and achieve good results on a regular basis. Some students also take part in international competitions in mathematics, history and other subjects. We use the results to analyse the effectiveness of teaching and plan next steps in learning. Results are communicated transparently to parents and provide a basis for individual objectives.
Preparation for College, IBDP or an Apprenticeship
Following our secondary school, students are able to pursue further education in English only, German only or both, as a bilingual student. They are ideally prepared for either continuing their education post obligatory school through the bilingual Swiss Matura, an international pathway such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or for an apprenticeship position. After graduation, students have the possibility to transfer to the SIS bilingual college at SIS Zürich, SIS Pfäffikon-Schwyz or SIS Basel.

We are convinced that the place where students learn has a decisive influence on how they learn. We therefore place great importance on an open school space that provides a welcoming atmosphere to students, staff, parents and guests alike, thus creating a pleasant overall environment. We cultivate multiple signature school events and regularly participate in activities that involve all SIS schools around the globe.
