In kindergarten, we are learning about the world around us through our five senses—sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. Everyday activities become opportunities for discovery, helping children build connections and curiosity about how things work.
Our Nature Days encourage us to connect with the season. The children observed the vibrant colors of autumn leaves, felt their crisp edges, and listened to the crunch underfoot. These moments bring the beauty of nature into focus while sparking thoughtful observations.
In the classroom, we have been sharpening our sense of hearing with sound games. Children closed their eyes to identify familiar sounds like clapping, bells, and animal noises. They also listened to the sounds of nature and used them as inspiration for drawings, transforming what they heard into imaginative artwork. Here a child drew what she heard, birds singing in a tree.
When learning about the elements, children experimented with water by holding an ice cube in their hands. They laughed as it became unbearably cold and melted into water, leading to questions about whether water has a smell. Later, while learning about fire, the children cautiously felt how a candle warmed the air and made predictions about what would happen if the flame was covered with a lid.

Art in Year 6
Our first topic in art this year was to draw bubbles from the movie “Inside Out”. In the bubbles, we were drawing memories of our summer holidays.
Our second topic in art was to draw like Tim Burton. Some of Tim Burton's characteristics are that he draws big eyes, uses very pale colors and his characters have thin necks.
Our third topic this year was drawing famous people and filling their silhouettes in with famous quotes they have spoken.
We are currently looking at designing a set for the stage. We created our own sets using cardboard and a variety of different materials. Everyone was able to choose what kind of set they wanted to create.
Next, we are going to be looking at the topic of costume design. First, we need to sketch our costume and think about what materials we will need to create it. We will then work with a partner to design and create our own costume.
Music in Year 6
At the beginning of the year, we looked at music and the power of lyrics. We learned about the structure of a song and analysed a variety of different songs. When analysing, we looked at the structure of the song and we also looked at rhyming, repetition and figurative language.
Our music topic this term is somewhat linked to our art topic. In music we are currently looking at musical theatre. To start, we looked at different types of roles and songs found in a musical. We have now started to work with a partner to write a song for our mini musical. Each pair is responsible for writing a song for a certain part of the play ‘Alice in Wonderland’. We will then put it together to create our own mini musical.
This is what a few of the Year 6 students have to say about our topics in art and music. They thought about things that they have enjoyed learning about and topics they would like to explore more in the future:
I would like to learn how to make pots out of clay. - Alice
In art I would like to work in groups to create a big mansion and we can build different things like a racing track or something that you can move. - Lucian
In music my favourite thing is playing the piano and listening to all kinds of music 24/7. - Amélie
In music I would like to learn about the history of ancient music. - Niclas
My favourite thing in art was building my own set and my favourite thing in music is writing my own songs. - Ferry
In art I enjoyed drawing the Tim Burton characters because they were really interesting, and it was fun. I enjoyed that we could create our own characters. - Ece
I would like to sew something myself that I can then take home. - Henrik
My favourite thing in art is that we are going to be creating our own costumes, and I get to work with a friend. - Julien
My favourite thing in music was when we could present our song so that other people could see what you like in music. - Aron
In music I enjoyed practicing for the Christmas show. - Janik
