The annual school camp of SIS Rotkreuz-Zug took place in the beautiful town of Saanen. Up in the mountains, students from Primary 3 to Secondary participated in thrilling activities such as a high ropes course, swimming and hiking through scenic trails. The students enjoyed bonding over campfires and building teamwork skills during these outdoor activities. The experience left everyone with cherished memories and deepened friendships.

We are thrilled to share the highlights of the SIS Cup Sports Competition held this past May in Wallisellen, Zurich. Our six Primary 5 and 6 students from SIS Rotkreuz-Zug not only participated but also made us immensely proud with their outstanding effort and exemplary sportsmanship as they took on teams from 16 other SIS schools from Switzerland, Germany and Brazil.
Our students showed remarkable determination in all events. Despite the fierce competition, their perseverance was evident, especially during the team games of basketball and floorball. They played with heart, never giving up and always supporting each other. Some of our proudest moments are highlighted below.
Beyond the competitions, our students made new friends and bonded as a team and school. They built lasting relationships with fellow participants from other SIS schools, fostering a spirit of unity and friendship that extended beyond the competitive events.We look forward to many more such opportunities where our students can shine and make us proud. Congratulations to our Grade 5 participants for their fantastic performance. They made us so proud!
Event Highlights:
Table Tennis
Our table tennis team showcased remarkable concentration and coordination, securing impressive 4th and 5th place finishes. Their dedication and fierce competition were evident in every match, making it one of the highlights of the competition.
Long Jump
In the long jump event, our student secured a commendable 5th place. Her strength, technique, and determination shone through, achieving a personal best and demonstrating impressive athleticism.
Chess
For the first time ever, SIS Rotkreuz placed in the top 10 in the chess competition. This milestone achievement is a testament to our students' strategic thinking and unwavering focus. His participation marked a significant moment in our school's history in chess.

Zum Ende dieses Schuljahres widmeten sich die Kindergartenkinder dem Thema Gärten. Diese Lerneinheit hat es uns ermöglicht, immer wieder nach draussen zu gehen, um zu beobachten, wie sich die Natur verändert, aber auch nach Spinnen und anderen Kleintieren Ausschau zu halten.
Um das Wachstum von Pflanzen etwas genauer beobachten zu können, haben wir verschiedene Samen in ein Glas mit Papiertüchern getan und regelmässig bewässert. So konnten die Kinder die Entwicklung vom Samen zur Pflanze gut beobachten. Ausserdem war es auch spannend zu sehen, wie verschieden sich die Pflanzen entwickeln und wie lange die Wurzeln der einzelnen Pflanzen werden.
Die Rollenspielecke wurde in ein Gartencenter verwandelt. Gerne spielten die Kinder dort und konnten umsetzen, was sie am englischen Unterrichtstag in einem «richtigen» Gartencenter erlebt haben. Die Kinder haben Pflanzen und Gartenutensilien verkauft und gekauft und dabei spielerisch den Umgang mit Geld geübt.
Im Laufe der Unterrichtseinheit bekamen wir ausserdem «Gäste». Mitte Mai wurden uns kleine Distelfalterraupen geliefert. Die Kinder waren sehr fasziniert beobachten zu können, wie sich aus den Raupen innert einiger Wochen Distelfalter entwickelt haben. Gemeinsam mit beiden Kindergartenklassen haben wir die Schmetterlinge in unserem Garten fliegen lassen.

Three years ago, SIS introduced the welcome initiative of the annual Intercountry Activities. The purpose of these being, through a common theme, to strengthen the SIS international community between the schools currently located in Brazil, Germany and Switzerland.
The first, in 2022, was to encourage international exchange through the writing and sharing of poetry. Last years was to create a dance using Ozobots. This year`s goal was to encourage international exchange and promote sustainability within the schools by creating a work of art made from the creative reuse of materials that would otherwise be discarded..
When the Intercountry Activity goal for this year was shared, with the Primary One students, it was decided that it would be a really fun idea to make a class pirate ship. This provided the perfect opportunity to transfer the learning that was taking place about floating and sinking in the Science lessons and combine this with the creativity that the students have in abundance.
Before any making commenced, the students shared what they already knew about boats. They discovered that they already knew a lot! They identified that there were some parts of the boat that they really wanted to find out about and to know the proper names of these.
After some excitable research, and armed with their newly acquired knowledge, the crucial design stage commenced. Great care and attention was taken, by each pairing, when designing each allocated part of the ship to ensure that it was as authentically represented as possible.
Then the real fun began! First the bow, hull and stern were carefully made followed by the gun ports from cardboard tubes and plastic bottle tops with attention to detail to make sure that they were identically made. Next, came the sails made attentively from delicate tissue paper and the masts made from cardboard tubes.
When making the rigging, from an assortment of ribbons, it was meticulously measured and cut so as to ensure that each run had identical intervals. Then came the precisely positioned Crow`s Nest positioned on top of the thoughtfully constructed masts. The Jolly Roger flag was conscientiously made and assembled before the anchor was attentively attached to the `SIS Rotkreuz` and it was set sail.

Anfangs Juni besuchte uns ein Polizist im Schulzimmer der 3. Klasse, um den Schülerinnen und Schülern wichtige Verkehrssicherheitsregeln näherzubringen. Der Unterricht begann im Klassenzimmer, wo die Kinder die verschiedenen Verkehrsschilder und deren Bedeutung wiederholten. Anschliessend wurde das Fahrrad genauer unter die Lupe genommen und gemeinsam beschriftet. Der Polizist erklärte dabei alle wichtigen Vorschriften rund um das Fahrradfahren.
Nach dieser theoretischen Einführung ging es dann auf den Schulhausplatz, wo die praktische Umsetzung der Regeln auf dem Programm stand. Zuerst wurde jedes Fahrrad inspiziert und noch mit Reflektoren ausgestattet. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler absolvierten dann einen spannenden Parcour, bei dem sie verschiedene Herausforderungen meistern mussten. Dazu gehörte das einhändige Fahren, das sichere Durchführen von Bremsmanövern und das Beachten des Rechtsvortritts.
Dieser Morgen war nicht nur lehrreich, sondern hat den Kindern auch viel Spass gemacht. Ein herzliches Dankeschön an die Polizei für diesen wertvollen Beitrag zur Verkehrssicherheit unserer Kinder!

Mittels des Buchs «Kinder mit Stern» der Autorin «Martine Letterie» haben wir in eindrücklichen Geschichten kennen gelernt, wie es jüdischen Kindern in den Niederlanden von der Besetzung durch die Nazis bis zum Ende des 2. Weltkriegs erging. Als noch kleine Kinder unter 6 Jahren haben sie gar nicht begriffen, wieso ihre Eltern keine Freude am Stern haben. Erst als ihre Eltern von ihnen weggenommen wurden, haben sie langsam bemerkt, was passieren könnte. Sie mussten getrennt von ihren Eltern einen trostlosen Alltag ohne Spielzeuge in einem Lager erleben.
Selbst nach dem Ende des 2. Weltkriegs konnten die Kinder nicht wirklich glücklich sein, sie erlebten eine unendliche Leere.
Wir mussten sehr viele traurige Empfindungen verarbeiten. Es blieb uns nicht viel anderes übrig als zu hoffen, dass so etwas nie mehr wieder passieren darf.
