1. Is it possible to measure the secretion model proteins using luciferase assays?
2. What are the genes that serve as modulators of the secretory pathway and may increase the secretion of proteins when over-expressed?

On the 6th of October I had the pleasure of joining Mr Leonhardt and his 2PCO students on a trip to Zoo Zurich, a renowned wildlife sanctuary located in Zurich that is considered to be one of the best zoos in Europe.
It was early in the morning and still a bit chilly when we all met at Bahnhof Stettbach. Even though I saw many sleepy faces I could tell that the students were in high spirits and excited about the upcoming trip. With no time to lose, breakfast was had on the go on the bus taking us to the zoo.
Several winding roads later we arrived at our destination, ready to meet Francesca, our tour guide for the hour that was to follow. Francesca took us through the Masoala Rainforest, sharing her knowledge and providing many remarkable facts about the zoo’s “mini rainforest ecosystem”. Being able to experience animals in their natural habitat was incredible – the students were particularly fascinated by the giant tortoise, the different types of monkeys, and the colourful chameleon that we spotted along the way. However, the final highlight of the tour through the Masoala Hall must have been the treetop walkway, allowing visitors to be at eye level with the inhabitants of the rainforest canopy up in the treetops.
After this memorable tour it was time to step out of the humid climate of the rainforest into the fresh air of the zoo’s outdoor area. The students were now given two hours to roam the zoo and explore what else it had to offer. Mr Leonhardt and I, on a mission to find the gorillas, would every now and then bump into some of the students as they were having fun going down the zoo’s slide, looking for the animals they wanted to see the most, or enjoying lunch in the sunshine at the zoo restaurant. Overall, this trip to the zoo was a delightful outing that allowed the students to connect with nature, observe a wide range of animals and learn about various conservation efforts.
Finally, at around 12:30 it was time to wave goodbye to the penguins at the zoo’s exit and head back to Stettbach, where an eventful week came to an end and the students were free to go home and enjoy their well-deserved break.

Monday
After the long and bustling train journey to Bellinzona, we eagerly deposited our bags and indulged in a leisurely lunch. With renewed energy, we embarked on an ascent towards the castle Montebello, conveniently situated near our hostel. As we explored the historic site, its rich history and commanding presence left a lasting impression.
Our curiosity and enthusiasm drove us to venture further, and we soon found ourselves at Sasso Corbaro Castle. The hike to this second castle was both exhilarating and challenging, requiring us to summon our inner adventurers. The reward, however, was well worth it. The panoramic views from Sasso Corbaro Castle were simply breathtaking, and we marveled at the architectural and historical wonders that surrounded us. It impressed us to see the Roman Artifacts Helmet Clasps and Middle-age items like swords, casks, and broaches.

Tuesday
The day started off by painfully waking up at 7 am in the ex-mental hospital current Youth hostel. Breakfast consisted of jam, bread, cheese and ham, and a lot of cereal. A lot of old and musty desserts were also there. We left the hostel later, taking a very long way all around the city, till we eventually got to our actual bus station, to which we missed the first bus. As we took the scrumptious bus ride to the base of the mountain, we happily decided to not take the gondola up the mountain because we are fit teenagers who went to bed early the night before and decided instead to try the leisurely mountain hike up the mountain. Eventually, we split into two groups, because some of our classmates aren’t accustomed to enjoying the Swiss outdoors. It was an amazing and beautiful view all around, as we got to the long bridge between the two mountains. We took a long break at the bridge, happily waiting for our classmates and taking in the amazing scenery. The faster students decided to speedwalk down the mountain so we could arrive very early at the village. Most of the class decided to stick together and wait for the slower students with Mr. Peter. The faster students enjoyed their free time by eating some of the local delicacies, such as the very popular Pizza in the Migros before returning to the hostel to go back to gaming or surfing the internet on our Handys. After a while, leaning towards 4-5 PM, we ended up all grouping up again and hiking up a large hill to Castel Grande. This of course was a last-minute decision as we were meant to hike to Madonna del Sasso, but Mr. Peter felt generous. Plus, we were meant to have toured the Castle Grande on Monday evening but were unfortunately too slow traveling between the three Castles. As we toured the beautiful and scenic castle, we discussed with Mr. Peter the dinner plan. He had a good idea and decided to have a Barbeque dinner at one of the castles we had visited on Monday. It took a long while once again for all the students to team up and go to the grill site, which was very epic in the end though. Mr. Peter oversaw all the grilling and barbeque, which was one of his best skills in everyone's opinion. Everyone had a scrumptiously good dinner, which was good. All in all, it was a good day.

Wednesday
On Wednesday morning we went to Monte Tomaro. We were very happy Mr. Peter didn’t ask us to hike any of the trails as we were all still exhausted from the previous day’s hike and staying up all night watching films and chatting. Taking the gondola was so much nicer than walking up. At the top there was a lot to do. Many of us went Rodeln and a few even tried the Zipline. It was a very fun experience and worth it. For lunch we went to a very good pizza place where we took a picture on the stairs. After that we went to Splash and Spa Tomaro and went swimming and on the water slides there. We stayed there for about 3 hours and then for dinner we returned to Castle Montebello to hang out and grill again.

Thursday
On Thursday our class went on a trip to the Go-karting track in Locarno; we got a quick introduction to the activity and learned the basics and the rules. It was a lot of fun competing against each other. At the end Benjamin was the most skilled driver and won the final race and became champion. We then went to the falconry show where we saw and learned about beautiful falcons, eagles including the bald eagle, hawks and other birds such as the secretary bird. The birds flew low over the guests. One even stood on Seiya and Mr. Peter's heads. After the Falconeria, we stopped by at a music store, where some people bought some small instruments and others got some Guitar Picks for free. In total this little Detour added about 1h more to our stay in Locarno. At the end of this eventful and thrilling day, we concluded the day by going to a restaurant in the center of Bellinzona. A bit of a long wait later, our delicious food arrived. We could finally fill our hungry stomachs and enjoy the food. It was an awesome end to an amazing day.

Friday
After five days of sleep deprivation training and guiding screen addicted teenagers (which I imagine is like trying to herd cats) around Bellinzona we returned home. All in all, it was a great trip and the students seemed to really enjoy it.
