Class Camp
Year 3 went on their very first class camp! We spent three days and two nights in Basel.
The first day we visited the Antiquities Museum where we explored real artefacts from Ancient Egypt (including mummies!) and made our own pharaoh masks. They had fun wearing this out and about in town.
The second day we visited the Basel Zoo. Here we learnt about how the zoo cares for and feeds the animals in a special workshop. We prepared some meals for the animals! After, we explored every inch of the park. All the animals - meerkats, otters, monkeys and more - were a big highlight of our trip.
The last day we visited Basel’s Natural History Museum. We had a special workshop about insects and how they live, eat and navigate the world around them.
Year 3 share some of their memorable moments below:
My favourite thing in the camp was going to the zoo and looking at the animals, especially the monkeys. The cutest ones were the squirrel monkeys. - Neva
The coolest was when we were at the Natural History Museum. We saw different animals and skeletons. Next year I’d bring more money to buy things. - Elias
My favourite thing was when we went to the zoo and my favourite animals in the zoo were the fishes and the reptile house. I liked that we were all together and could talk at night. - Emilia
My favourite thing was when I was up late with my friends playing Uno in our room on our beds. - Alex
I liked the zoo the most. My favourite animal at the zoo was the jellyfish. I really liked sleeping on the top bunk! - Milli
My favourite thing was that we were all together and we had a lot of fun. The best part about sleeping in the same room was that we could talk together. - Marlena
My favourite thing was to hang out with my friends when we were outside playing in the playground. I’ll remember how we all had a group hug before bed and took care of each other when we were homesick. - Linea
The best thing was doing our mask at the museum. Next year I’d sleep more! - Raphael
The coolest part about camp was when we were in bed and we were reading our books. The part that I will remember is when we were up late and we played with our stuffies on Linea’s bed! – Lidia
I liked seeing the otters on Thursday at the Basel Zoo. The coolest thing at the Egyptian museum was making the masks. - Evan
My favourite part of our trip was when we were trying to sleep and we all had to laugh. We also read some books and cuddle with our little stuffies. – Aurelia
What I really liked was going to the Egypt museum and making our own masks. I’ll never forget sharing a room with my best friends! - Ella-Rose
We had many adventures over the three days. All the students were brave, independent and responsible. They should be really proud!

People who changed the world
In term 3, year 5 spent time learning about significant people who changed the world. They were able to choose a person that interested them and researched that person. They found out information about their childhood, their big achievements and their later life.
To present their information they created a poster. One day we celebrated ‘the day of the notables.’ Each year 5 student came dressed as the person they chose to research and spoke to the class about ‘themselves’.
Their effort and dedication to the task was excellent and they should be very proud of all of their hard work.

SIS Cup 2024
The SIS Cup is an annual sports competition between the SIS schools of Switzerland, Germany and Brazil with 17 teams and 102 students competing this year. The 2024 competition took place from 14 to 15 May on the campus of SIS Zürich and included floorball, basketball, table tennis, an obstacle course, a run-throw-biathlon, chess and several individual athletics events.
This year’s team finished in 5th place overall – the best result of any SIS Männedorf team so far! Not only did these six students give strong athletic performances but they also showed fairness and respect to everyone around them. Most of all, they enjoyed making new friends and fun memories. We are SO proud of this team’s effort, motivation and attitude!

World Book Day
Books, books, books! How we love celebrating books and the amazing places we can visit. On Wednesday 8th May we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up for the day and focusing our morning lessons on books.
Walking around the school you would have seen many different book characters in the classrooms and in the playground. It’s difficult to name them all as the number of costumes was phenomenal.
The children enjoyed celebrating in their classrooms with book themed activities including whole school buddy reading. Looking around the school and seeing the children sharing books together in their costumes was certainly a wonderful sight and one that gave us great pleasure.
Leading up to our World Book Day celebration, we ran a picture book tournament where 8 picture books were read amongst the classes and voted upon. The picture book finalists were 'The Day the Crayons Quit' and 'Hier sind Wir'. On World Book Day, Drew Daywalt's 'The Day the Crayons Quit' came out as our overall chosen winner: a unique and fun book for all to read.
It was such a delight to see the children’s faces throughout the day, full of excitement and enthusiasm while celebrating. The day was a brilliant success and we look forward to future World Book days.

Holiday Club
