Wir sind freuen uns über den Artikel, der in der Ausgabe vom 16. Mai 2023 der Solothurner Zeitung erschienen ist.

In Primary Intro we have been learning how to collect and visualize data. We started with a question, moved on to collecting data, we analysed our results, and then interpreted our findings.

Our question was, “What is the most prevalent colour in a bag of cotton balls?” Each child took a handful of the fluffy balls and then sorted them by colour. After that, we counted how many we had of each colour. The mathematicians then took some squared paper and constructed a bar graph. After everyone completed the task, we looked at the individual results. The children noticed that in each of the bar graphs, the colour red had the highest result.

By organizing the data that we gathered, the numbers came to life and children were better able to visualize and compare the number of items that they gathered.

In der ersten und zweiten Klasse sind wir nach den Frühlingsferien motiviert in das Mathethema Geld eingestiegen. Ein Thema, das viel Freude und zugleich auch einige Herausforderungen mit sich bringen kann. Wir wollten nicht nur im Heft arbeiten, sondern auch handelnd. Deshalb sind wir “auf dem Markt” gewesen und haben mit viel Freude fleissig eingekauft. Dafür haben wir unsere Fantasie angeregt und aus grünen Würfelstäben und kleinen Holzwürfel sind Früchte und Gemüse entstanden. Verteilt im ganzen Klassenzimmer haben wir kleine Stände eingerichtet. Dazu zählten Erdbeeren, ein Stand mit Gurken und Radieschen, ein anderer, der Honig und Marmelade verkauft hat und noch ein paar weitere Obst- und Gemüsehändler. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler haben nach ihren Einkaufslisten eingekauft und mit Spielgeld bezahlt, welches vorher gemeinsam ausgeteilt und zusammengerechnet wurde. Besonders in der Rolle der Verkäuferin und des Verkäufers musste ganz genau gerechnet werden, um passend Rückgeld zu geben. Wir alle haben viel gelernt und Spass gehabt.

In the new NMG unit, P3 and P4 are actively investigating famous inventors and their inventions. The unit began with introductory activities designed to encourage students to begin thinking about inventions in their lives today and throughout history and also introduce them to new vocabulary. Students have imagined how different our lives would be without inventions, such as computers, electricity, and medicine. They have discussed how inventions improve things at home, at school, in the community, and in the world. They are learning that inventing is a process that begins with a need and ends up with something new - the actual invention. As the unit continues, students will learn firsthand more about the process of inventing as they develop their own ideas for a new product or process. Here’s what some of P3 and P4 had to say about their investigations thus far:  

• I like the fact that Galileo invented the telescope. This helped astronomers see objects that are very far away in space. 
• I like the way we go back in history and learn about different inventions.   
• I like it when we get the information sheets about the history of inventions. We are learning many new things! 
• I have always wanted to invent something, and I am excited about the chance to do this. 
• I like this unit very much because I like doing group work and using the computers and making projects. 
• I am really looking forward to creating my own invention.

«Was ist los?» Dies können die 5. Klässler sehr genau beantworten. Denn so tauften sie ihre Klassenzeitung, an welcher sie jeden Freitag fleissig redaktionell arbeiten.

Sie zeigen dabei nicht nur einen schier unerschöpflichen Ideenreichtum, sondern arbeiten auch hochkonzentriert, exakt, speditiv und in hervorragender Teamarbeit. Nebst intensiven Recherchen und Aktivieren von Vorwissen werden sie zuweilen auch zu fliegenden Reportern, die das Klassenzimmer verlassen und sowohl Lehrpersonen wie auch Mitschülerinnen und Mitschüler zu bestimmen Themen interviewen und befragen.

Bei der Themenwahl wurde ihnen frei Hand gewährt und basierend auf ihrem vielseitigen Allgemeinwissen und Aufgeschlossenheit ist ein interessantes und vielseitiges Werk am Entstehen, welches dann selbstverständlich auch den Mitschülerinnen und -schülern sowie Eltern präsentiert werden wird.

Get ready to groove with the Grade 6 students as they rock the SIS-wide programming competition with their Ozobot dances! This exciting IT unit encouraged international exchange and promoted the SIS IT curricula through the coding of dance moves, music, and outfits.  

As they delved deeper into programming, the students faced challenges such as synchronizing their Ozobot's movements to the beat of their chosen song and ensuring they stopped at the right moment. But with determination and perseverance, Grade 6 overcame these obstacles, honing their problem-solving skills through trial and error.  

One student couldn't contain her excitement, exclaiming that this was the best IT unit she’s experienced so far and highly recommended other classes to try their hands at programming, even if it's not for the competition.  

The group's hard work and teamwork paid off as they presented their Ozobot dances and admired each other's creativity. The hands-on learning experience provided an appreciation of the intricate details involved in programming electronic devices. This successful competition sparked enthusiasm and promoted interest in programming among our young Grade 6 students.
