As we started this school year, we knew our Sec 1 class would be a big group. In all, twenty students, some former and some new students, looked forward to starting an exciting school year. With such a large new group, it was important for the students to get to know each other well, as they will be spending a whole lot of time together, trying to navigate the social and academic challenges of Secondary school. With this in mind, students were assigned a project for their Life Skills class entitled, “All about me”- a personal portrait. Each student created a collage of carefully selected photos on to a poster, which describes who they are, where they are from, their hobbies and important details about themselves. Lastly, students had to shape their portrait into a shape or item they feel represents them. Once completed, these portraits were presented in class. The variety of shapes and colors was spectacular! The projects visually brought to life the diversity of our secondary 1 class and portrayed their individuality. We are truly getting to know our Secondary 1 students, one portrait at a time.
